Strange Bedfellows
To satisfy Trump's 3-year-old grudge, his influencers are siding with the Squad
I expect virulent anti-Semitism from the Pro-Hamas caucus in Congress as a general rule. So it didn’t surprise me when the members of the Jew-hating Squad overlooked Hamas’ grisly and inhuman attacks on Israeli citizens so they could cast Israel as the bad guy.
But even a cynic like myself was somewhat caught off guard when pro-Trump “influencers” on social media spent much of the last week doing the same thing.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I know there are both closet and open anti-Semites in the pro-Trump camp. Even so, I did Nazi this coming.
Trump-aligned “influencers” like Charlie Kirk and his band of Turning Point Misfits, podcasters from The Blaze, and other pro-Trump podcasters, bloggers, and conspiracy theorists have spent the last few days taking a leaf out of the Squad’s playbook.
These guys are promoting Hamas propaganda, disseminating debunked photos and videos, and making some of the most outlandish claims, including this stroke of stupidity from Trump influencer Emerald Robinson:
If you don't yet understand why so many American politicians defend Israel with more passion and anger than America, then I have two words to explain their captivity: Jeffrey Epstein.
I hope Emerald warmed up before that particular display of mental gymnastics.
Meanwhile, The Blaze TV’s Lauren Chen yesterday made the case for pint-sized Nazi wannabe Nick Fuentes, claiming that the Jew-hating pipsqueak has “a more balanced and rational take on Israel/Palestine than the entire political class.”
To borrow from the classic tweet from noted shit-poster @dril: Regarding the wee Jew-hating Neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes, you do not, under any circumstances, “gotta hand it to him.”
Townhall columnist John Hasson on Saturday posted a video clip of Turning Point millionaire Charlie Kirk suggesting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allowed Saturday’s terrorist attacks to go forward to distract from his domestic problems.
Sure, Charlie said he was just asking questions. But isn’t that what every idiot who makes an outlandish accusation says?
“Hey, I’m just asking questions here!”
Hasson also pointed out that just a few days earlier, Charlie was blasting an MSNBC contributor for suggesting that last weekend’s terror attacks were a gift to Benjamin Netanyahu.
Why did Charlie and the rest of Trump’s Too-Online Army change their tune?
The answer won’t surprise you.
On Wednesday night, Donald Trump led his followers out on this particular limb when he criticized Netanyahu over last weekend’s terrorist attacks and claimed that the Israeli prime minister “let us down” when Israel refused to participate in the strike to take out IRGC General Qassem Soleimani in January 2020.
In reality, the United States got Soleimani thanks in part to the work of Israeli intelligence. NBC News reported on Israel’s involvement just days after the strike, and former Israeli intel chief Maj. Gen. Tamir Heyman later confirmed the NBC News report in a November 2021 interview.
Was Donald Trump expecting an IDF drone pilot to place his hand over the hand of the American drone pilot operating the joystick? What more involvement did he expect?
Then again, Trump’s issue with Benjamin Netanyahu has nothing to do with the Soleimani strike and everything to do with a 3-year-old grudge.
You see, Trump is still angry that Netanyahu congratulated Joe Biden after Biden was officially declared the winner of the 2020 election.
Nearly three years later, Donald Trump cannot let it go.
Back in 2021, we got our first peek into just how livid Trump was about that congratulations tweet in a book by author Barak Ravid titled “Trump’s Peace: The Abraham Accords and the Reshaping of the Middle East.”
In writing his book, Ravid met with Donald Trump in April 2021, and during the interviews, Trump went on a profanity-laced tear over Netanyahu congratulating Biden, saying he “made a terrible mistake.”
Trump admitted to Ravid that hadn’t spoken to Netanyahu since, adding a classy, “Fuck him” for good measure. He also claimed that Netanyahu lost reelection in March 2021 because of his disloyalty to Trump.
Here we are two and a half years later, and Donald Trump is still holding a grudge.
But that isn’t surprising given how Trump clings to resentment like a dingleberry on a dog’s ass. Resentment is fueling his latest presidential run, with his entire campaign pitch consisting of score-settling and an endless airing of grievances.
And because that’s all Trump has to offer, his faithful are jerked hither and thither as they struggle to keep up with what positions they’re supposed to take at any given moment.
Trump makes an outlandish statement. These guys dutifully crawl out on a limb to join him. And as soon as they’re out there with their asses hanging over the sides, Donald returns with a chainsaw and cuts the limb out from under them.
It happens every time. And it happened this week.
Just days after Team Trump let loose with their Squad-like talking points, Donald, facing incoming fire from practically everyone with two brain cells, walked back his remarks on Truth Social by posting the hashtags #IStandWithIsrael and #IStandWithBibi.
To test the loyalty of his supporters, Trump is doing the rhetorical equivalent of shooting someone in the middle of 5th Avenue. And so far, he’s proving his point. Trump fans will support whatever he says, no matter how contradictory or awful it might be.
Trump fans who were among the most vocal pro-life advocates shifted on a dime the minute Trump decided to attack pro-lifers.
And now, the people who spent the last several years condemning the virulent anti-Semitism of the Squad are burping out the same hateful nonsense simply because Donald Trump can’t let go of a 3-year-old grudge.
It really is something to behold.
