After I wrote about Mike Cernovich’s short documentary “Blood Money," I decided it was time I sat down and watched his full-length documentary film “Hoaxed” which came out a few months ago.
Well, I just finished watching it and let me tell you; it is without question one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.
Hoaxed is the definitive film on Fake News and media manipulation.
In Hoaxed, Cernovich outlines the genesis Fake News from Walter Duranty to Chris Cuomo, from the first Gulf War to Charlottesville.
Not only is it incredibly informative, it is also masterfully produced.
And while the topic of Fake News is widely reported on, I have never seen it done in such a revealing and articulate way as Hoaxed.
You definitely come away from the film with a clearer understanding of how the American media manipulates “news.” But that’s just a piece of it. Really what Hoaxed is all about is how, in the end, the news media is not there to inform, but rather to ensure that we remain uninformed.
Uniformed and divided.
The film features some well-known new media personalities including Scott Adams, Stefan Molyneux, Gavin McInnes, Jordan Peterson, Tim Pool, James O’Keefe, Lauren Southern, Cassie Jaye and, of course, Alex Jones.
I don’t want to go into too much detail, because I just don’t think I could do it justice.
Though, I will say that Molyneux explaining Plato’s allegory of the cave is absolutely brilliant within the context of the film (you'll see what I mean).
The truth is, you really have to see Hoaxed for yourself.
It’s available for rent at Vimeo for $4.99. Hell, do what I did and spend the $9.99 to buy it. Because it definitely is something worth watching more than once.
The media's power to manipulate hinges on the audience being unaware that they are being manipulated. Hoaxed pulls the curtain back and exposes the truth. It deprives the media of that very power that they need to succeed.
Here's the trailer for Hoaxed -- just to give you a flavor.
